I was immediately mesmerized by Rapture Ruckus' sound from the moment I heard the first beat on the song "Hold On" from the groups first EP. They have a sound that I am pretty sure nobody else has replicated. It is like KJ-52 mixed with Eleventyseven. The band is a mix between two of my favorite genres and I genuinely enjoy listening to everything they release. The biggest disappointment I think with is album is the fact that it three of the 10 songs are from the groups first EP. So, basically there are only seven new songs on Open Your Eyes. For Rapture Ruckus' first full-length album it is pretty solid though.

The album starts off with a very catchy, and (of course) upbeat song, which also happens to be the first single, "This Little Light." This song has something about it that makes it very appealing to the ears. It has all the great qualities of "Hold On" which got me into their music to begin with. The lyrics are very clever and very clear. The beat is amazing just like every other beat on the rest of the album. The lead singer/rapper, Brad Dring, has a very pleasing voice in general, but it sounds really good on this track in particular. The band's music demands attention right away and this song starts off the album very well.

Another one of my favorites on the album is "Going Home." The song has one of the best choruses on the album, and Dring's voice turned out the best on this track. I especially love it when he says, "Throw your hands up like you just don't care," because his voice sounds really good at the part of the song in particular. I really love the lyrics to this song and they seem pretty personal even if they do not sound like it after only one listen. With Rapture Ruckus you have to listen a little bit more closely to the lyrics to really understand and get the full effect of what they are saying.

The title track, "Open Your Eyes," seems deeply personal and emotional. Whenever I listen to this song it makes me really think. The lyrics are so heavy with emotion and really sad. The song goes through many different scenarios of people going through difficult times, and all I can think of when I listen to this song is that I am so thankful that I am not going through any of those things right now. Sometimes I may complain about things that are going on in my life but when I listen to this song I really feel thankful because I could have it so much worse. The chorus was done very well on this song and the bridge is one of my favorites on the album.

"Break the Line" is one of the more hard-hitting and rap-heavy songs not the album. This song is one of my favorites on the album just because rap is my favorite genre and this song really places that emphasis on that part of the band. The lyrics seem very personal again; but definitely not as emotional as "Open Your Eyes." I feel like I can connect almost all of Rapture Ruckus' songs and I absolutely love bands like that.

Rapture Ruckus still has some improvements to do for their next album; however Open Your Eyes is really good (especially for a debut full-length). I would love to see what Brad would sound like with a little less auto-tone. Do not get me wrong, I love Brad's voice with the auto-tune but I think it would be really cool to see what he sounds like on at least one song with no auto-tune whatsoever. Open Your Eyes was one of my most anticipated releases of the year and I have to say it basically reached my expectations. I think I will be listening to this album for a very long time.

Favorite Song: This Little Light

Favorite Lyrics: "You gotta hold on, help is coming. You gotta hold on, you gonna make it through the rain." (From the song "Hold On")
