This is one of my most anticipated albums of the year. Family Force 5 always knows how to pump up the party and get you dancing and singing along right away. Their music has always fascinated me and I regularly listen to both of their past albums, Dance or Die and Business Up Front/Party in the Back, as well as their Christmas album, The Family Force 5 Christmas Pageant. FF5 has a very unique sound that no one in the Christian or secular world has replicated yet. The closest band I can compare them to is secular band LMFAO, but ten times better. This album does not showcase the band's lyrical talent as much as their past projects but the beats more than makeup for that. The band really showed their versatility on III and I believe this album will be a huge hit from the minute it hits iTunes and stores on October 18.
The album starts off with the explosive song "Can You Feel It" that definitely represents the band's newer sound. You can tell Family Force 5 has a lot of swagger because it really comes out in this first song. If you looked up the word swag in the dictionary Solomon Olds' picture would be right next to it. From the first beat you can tell III is going to be amazing. The line "ear drums need love" in the chorus made me so excited when I heard it.
"Paycheck" happens to be another amazing song on the album. It reminds me so much of their old stuff, especially when Solomon says, "I shoulda been a baller, shot caller." That line sounds a lot like their older songs. The chorus sounds a lot more like the new sound, but the verses have the style of Dance or Die.
I cannot say enough about "Wobble." I already wrote a review of the III EP when it came out in April, which also had the song "Wobble" on it. I love this song so much. The play on words is really great on this track and the beat is oh so catchy. This was my pump song in April. I listened to it all morning before I took my AP exam for World History, and I got a 4 (on a scale of 5) on the exam. I am pretty sure that is NOT a coincidence. I think I am going to start listening to this song before every test I take because it is definitely my 'lucky charm.'
There is something about the song "Tank Top" that entrances me. I am in love with this song so much. It sounds a lot like their song "Get Your Back Off The Wall." The lyrics to this song still are not up to par for Family Force 5, but the beat and Solomon's vocals are so beast that I really do not care about the lyrics. However, the one line that is so funny is when he says, "I see hot people. I see not people." And my new word is swackalackin. That has got to be the coolest made-up word ever!
Family Force 5 has never done a song like "Not Alone." The song is so much more serene than anything they have ever done and I surprisingly have fallen in love with it. I have never seen Family Force 5 do such an emotional song. This song really shows the band's versatility and makes me so excited of all the possibilities for future releases from the band. I love how FF5 can go from such a party and crunk sounding song ("Tank Top") to such an emotional song.
My biggest concern with III is its brevity. It is short that by the time I reached the last note on "Get On Outta Here" I could not believe it was already done. The album is only 33 minutes in length, which is definitely not long enough by my standards. I love Family Force 5 and I want to be able to listen to more than just 33 minutes of new music. With that said though, the 33 minutes are jam-packed with amazing music.
Family Force 5 has long been one of my favorite bands. Their crunk party style music always has a way of bringing me back for more. Once I start listening to any of their albums I cannot stop listening to it and I end up listening to it for the next couple hours. Their music makes me so excited whenever I listen to it. Family Force 5 has such a great sound that attracts so many people, whether they are Christians are not. Once again, Family Force 5 created a masterpiece and is definitely worth picking up.
